Oh Brian!

I've started developing my ideas for outdoor broadband Internet access for Nassau and Suffolk Counties on Long Islnd, in New York. I've created a web site to post this information over at Google using their Page Creator.

I saw this interesting article from Reuters that I saw at Yahoo! News on Google WiFi service in Mountain View, California. I couldn't find a link to Google WiFi at the Google site but I did find the FAQ.

Update(8/19): Here is a Wired News article about their tests of the Google WiFi service. HowStuffWorks also published a good article on Municipal WiFi.

Rich Betjlich had an interesting post this afternoon over on TaoSecurity.com. It seems that a cartoonist (Brian Schearer) put a reference to Rich into his comic titled "Memory Leak". A link to the cartoon is here. Rich doesn't know what to make of it (yet). I think it points out that there are real sources of knowledge and then there are those who just make slides to show at conferences.

The folks from VMWare Technology Network (EMC) are maintaining a nice directory of VMWare appliance images. The list is long (10 pages at approximately 25 entries per page) and appears to be mostly open source operating sytstems and many feature add-on applications. The rating system seems a little weak; in that who ever contributes the application and registered VMTN users can supply ratings. VMTN also lists the size of the download and the date (that the image was submitted to this directory).
